Did you know that the “18 Infamous Golf Holes” was on Tour earlier this summer.
Actually, a first-of-its kind premiere exhibit in Washington DC…
the same weekend as the Quicken Loans PGA Tour event at Congressional CC. 
TPK Golf and the Bud Chapman Collection were delighted to present
this whimsical vintage golf series of original giclees hosted by Art Soiree 
And now the pleasure of presenting a signature video celebrating
 “The 18 Infamous Golf Holes” and its acclaimed artist, Bud Chapman…
also an artful golf champ.

trump dc 1An avid golfer, having won several state tournaments, Bud is a member of the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame and also personally acquainted with several iconic golf legends.  At the age of 91, his worst handicap is the 4.2 handicap he still carries and still continues to paint a lively lifetime tapestry.
Besides “The 18 Infamous Golf Holes”, Chapman was also commissioned for other works, commemorating assorted tournaments, the U.S. Seniors Open, the Solheim Cup, and especially fond of the tribute of the 2006 Ryder Cup designated as gifts for the USA Team by Captain Tom 2006 ryder cupLehman.
While Chapman looks forward to the Ryder Cup USA return at his home course Hazeltine National GC.
Original works of the U.S. Senior Open can be seen at USGA headquarters
at Far Hills, NJ.

Art Whimsy is Trending

Art whimsy might be trending these days.

The Bud Chapman Collection of the “18 Infamous Golf Holes” is a charming historical collection for the country club or for corporate art, also now available for the discerning collector. This original gicleé is a signed special limited edition available through TPK Golf.

Each set of gicleés is hand signed and remarqued and an authentic replica of the original watercolor. Individual prints will also be available for the discerning collector. Each original painting is watercolor and pencil, faithfully reproduced and mastered for matching palette as a series hallmark. Each print is 28″ x 36″ including border (image size: 23″ x 29.5″)bud 1

The paintings were also done in Bud Chapman’s style of “Surrealistic Realism” with a technique including a combination of brush strokes, scraping, and air brushing to achieve the beauty and realism of these fantasy holes. The original paintings were done on archival illustration board and have the appearance of beautiful oils, but are actually watercolors.

The first effort rendering whimsical interpretation of demanding *|MC_SUBJECT|*golf courses was entitled “Victoria Falls Golf Club”.  Seventeen more golf holes followed over the next 10 years that became the “18 Infamous Golf Holes” Collection.

These works also have reputed historical significance regarding modern golf course design.  World Class golf course architect Pete Dye had this to say about the “18 Infamous Golf Holes”:

“Bud’s innovative thinking certainly influenced many designers to make the contours a little steeper and the bunkers a little deeper and generally to think outside the box with new designs, and, in that way Bud made a great contribution to the game.”

Loyal H. “Bud” Chapman, a native of Minnesota, was born in 1923. He began painting at an early age and played his first round of golf as a caddie at the age of 12 at Interlachen Country Club, the site where Bobby Jones finalized his grand slam. As a youngster,  he caddied for legendary golfer Patty Berg.

bchapman 2During World War II he flew B-29’s, and following the war he attended Walker Art School in Minneapolis. He later opened his own art studio, starting a career as a commercial artist.

In 1972 he completed his golf thumbfirst golf painting, Victoria Falls Golf Club. Seventeen more holes followed over the next 10 years that were to be the 18 Infamous Golf Holes. To climax and complete the series he created the 19th Infamous Hole Golf Course. This whimsical golf art series first appeared in Golf Digest Magazine and later were featured internationally in Reader’s Digest Magazine. They have appeared and been featured on numerous television talk shows and have been distributed throughout the world.

An avid golfer, Bud Chapman has won several state bud 1tournaments, was perennial club champion and participated in USGA national amateur opens, and has also been inducted into the Minnesota Golf Hall of Fame.  At the age of 91 he still carries a 4.2 handicap and still continues to paint.
